The U.S. Department of the Treasury will now pay all federal benefits electronically. If you apply for benefits on or after May 1, 2011, you will receive benefit payments electronically from the start. If you are receiving benefits by paper check, you will need to make the switch by March 1, 2013. This include recipients of Social Security, disability, welfare, and all other regular federal benefits.
